Beginners guide: Etiquette
Whether you are going to a live casino or playing online it is always good to display a good etiquette. Below are some etiquette rules generally deemed important by casinos.
Live casino
When visiting a live casino keep the following in mind:
- Make sure you are dressed according with the rules of the casino. Some casinos have harsher dress codes where a jacket and tie is necessary, while some care less.
- Be sure to see if the casino restricts drunken players from entry. Some casinos have policies to not let drunken people enter, while other actually supports it as they tend to spend more money if drunk. At big casinos in Las Vegas for instance, high rollers can get “comps”, as in complementary drinks, to keep them happy and keep them playing, i.e. keep losing.
- All international casinos register the players in some way. Casinos will sometimes ask for ID at the entry. Many casinos have very sophisticated surveillance systems to keep track and track down cheaters.
- Mobile phones are in general not permitted inside a casino. IPods have recently also been banned, because it was found they were used to cheat. If uncertain, leave the MP3-player at home. It would be very unfortunate to be accused of cheating when you haven’t. Penalties can be severe.
- If in doubt all casinos have a floor man whose sole purpose is to serve you, the guest. They’re there to service you and to make you feel comfortable. They can answer all your questions, whether it is about the rules of a certain game or where the bathrooms are.
Online casino
While there are many defined etiquette rules on how to act when in a live casino, there aren’t that many for an online casino. Although there are a few things to keep in mind when visiting/playing in an online casino:
- If your only purpose of the visit is to cheat the casino by trying to “steal bonuses”, keep in my mind, you are eventually going to get caught.
- Don’t register more than one account at the casino.
- Make sure you’re aware of the rules of the casinos. You may get banned if you don’t follow the rules.
- When communicating in a poker room, use appropriate internet/community language. Do not curse, do not post racist comments, do not personally offend another player, do not mass post, do not make sexual comments and do not post anything that you wouldn’t say straight to someone’s face.
